It finally happened, I decided I needed a new bathroom suite and started the process of searching for the right bathroom to meet my needs. I visited many stores locally, B & Q, Wickes and so on until I came across a large showroom and a company called Tecaz in Stockton On Tees.
The showroom appeared to have an extensive range and on the face of it contained good quality stock. The sales team presented themselves as helpful and friendly although some did come across as ex-used car salesmen from the 1980's, perhaps this should have been a warning sign, who knows. Anyway the deal was done I saw a bathroom suite I really liked and then chose the taps and fitments. The delivery was selected and I had a plumber lined up to install the suite.
Ta Da!! Delivery day arrived and it was on time with no complaints about that. The plumber arrived on time and commenced work, he was great and someone I had used previously.
He installed the bath first and then moved on to the sink. This was the first technical hitch as the sink could never been fitted straight as it had a 3 inch difference from the left hand side to the right hand side at the front. The rear had a further 2inch height difference when in fact the whole sink should have been square. Upon inspection, which because it was so obvious wasn't hard to notice, it was identified as a casting fault. So phone call number one to Tecaz they advised I bring it back for them to see and I did. The net result of this was a straight exchange but no apology or refund for delivery as I was no making trips back and fourth.
Sink number two was inspected and we noticed it still had a casting fault so we rang Tecaz again and they said to fit it for now, as they knew I needed a bathroom functioning and they would send one of their fitters out to inspect it. Due to the messing about the plumber who had quoted for one days work obviously moved in to his second day and the fees for installation increased.
Day two the toilet was installed, the cistern fittings and handle supplied by Tecaz were incorrect and not the ones selected from the display. So phone call number three and the plumber is left twiddling his thumbs. We were told come down and we will swap them for you, just go to the store they said. Upon arrival I spoke to an older gentleman who said; "The sales team are idiot's, they don't know what they are talking about. I don't know why they told you that you, can have the same fittings as on display as they will never fit let alone work."
He then provided us with an alternative which was not what we asked for and in addition to this he then attempted to construct something that might fit and work as an alternative. I explained I was disappointed and he advised; "Don't speak to them clown's in their (referring to the Stockton Team), ring head office."
I took the parts back home and the plumber had another look and said; "Yet again they have given you the wrong parts and these will never fit." I rang head office and spoke to a lady telling her the full situation and what part was required as advised by the plumber who had again finished for the day. The lady advised me that she will have it set out to Stockton to be picked up by myself the following day.
As soon as I picked it up I called the plumber who kindly came straight back looked at it and said; "They've sent the wrong part again." I rang this lady who apologised and advised me she will get the right part sent even if it means going to the warehouse to select it herself. The following day it arrived, it was the right part but it was o say the least cheap and nasty so much so we had to go to B and Q at further added expense and buy better quality fittings.
To say I was annoyed was an understatement we had incurred 3 days pay for the plumber and not one, which was compounded by having to pay for delivery but then collect the parts and replace the parts with exchanges from Tecaz. Then we still had to go and buy better quality parts elsewhere whilst having to function without a bathroom that was useable for 5 days.
An email of complaint was sent to Tecaz and I explained we still had a badly cast sink which they advised us to fit in the end until a replacement could be sourced. I explained about the additional £250 they had cost me in plumber costs and buying additional parts and the net result was a visit from their fitter or specialist as they called him who stated; "Oh yeah that sink is badly cast, I've never seen one like that before." He then said; "Your cistern handle and fittings will never work properly as they are designed for this unit however, I can try my best to construct something like, alternatively you will have a cheap silver effect handle which probably won't last two minutes."
I told him I wanted what I paid for and he agreed rather empathetically saying I understand but it's not up to me I just look at what you are complaining about and report back. After his visit I received a phone call from a gentleman in their customer service team who advised me that because of all of the problems experienced and because they cannot change the sink (which was news to me) they would be willing to give me a refund of £75 as a gesture of goodwill. I explained where this nominal refund could be placed as it doesn't even cover half of the costs I had incurred. He said well there is not a lot I can do.
I am now a year on and still have a dodgy sink unit, a dodgy flush and cistern fitting. The taps on the sink have lost all of the writing on them where it said "Hot, Cold" there are just white caps. The plug chains and plugs have all corroded and become rusty and so have the chrome waste fittings.
This was my incentive for setting up this page so you can see and hear about the real experiences people suffer at the hands of Tecaz you may come across some positive reviews but then it is worth asking yourself who wrote them, was it staff or friends of staff?
I will post more pictures and news shortly, I will also update the reviews as and when more get posted but please do not make the mistake of thinking these reviews are old some are from May and June 2015.
My experience would lead me to say; BUYER BE WARE or play it safe and BUY ELSEWHERE!!!
